History
Cariuma is a designer and manufacturer of sustainably produced sneaker-style shoes, which it retails through the Internet.[1] It was founded in 2018 by David Python[2] and Fernando Porto.[3] Cariuma's manufacturing is based in Brazil[4] and China.[5] It has offices in Singapore, New York City, Los Angeles, and Rio de Janeiro.[6]
Production
Cariuma makes its shoes by hand, and uses materials including canvas, leather, and suede,[4] in addition to bamboo and recycled plastic knit. Its soles are sourced from sugar-cane based EVA. The insoles are created through a mix of cork and memory foam.[3] Styles have included a low top version[7] and an Ibi version.[3] Shoes are shipping to customers in recycled packaging[4] and the company purchases carbon offsets to make its shipping carbon neutral.[8] The company has worked with artists including Elisa Wong, was the official footwear partner of Pantone,[6] and is a sponsor of Italo Ferreira of the World Surf League.[9]
