Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs

A number of cabinet committees are set up by the Prime Minister of India as per the need and requirement. They are extra-constitutional as they do not find mention in the constitution. The Cabinet Committee on Political affairs is set up and chaired by the prime minister and often described as 'super cabinet' as it is the most important of all. The committee deals with all policy matters pertaining to domestic and foreign affairs.[1] It is also enjoined to deal with policy matters concerning foreign affairs that do not have external or internal security implications, as matters with such implications are required to be dealt with by the Cabinet Committee on Security.

After coming in power second time in May 2019, Shri Narendra Modi Govt. reconstituted the political affairs committee. Currently members are 1. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister 2. Rajnath Singh, Minister of Defence 3. Nirmala Sitaraman, Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs 4. Amit Shah, Minister of Home Affairs 5. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law and Justice, Minister of Communication and Minister of Electronics and information Technology among others.[2]
