Elections
He unsuccessfully contested against Sagir Ahmed of Congress in 1999 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections. He lost by a very narrow margin of just 982 votes. Undeterred by his defeat, C.T Ravi took this as a challenge and toured Chikkamagaluru Constituency extensively, built party base in the district, fought for Hindus and also Dattapeetha, which gave him a major break and his popularity shot up. On 20 August 2019, he was inducted as the Cabinet Minister in the BJP Government Led by B.S. Yediyurappa.
In the 2004 Karnataka Legislative Assembly elections, Sageer Ahmed lost to C. T. Ravi by a margin of more than 25,000 Votes, thus marking C. T. Ravi's maiden entry to Karnataka Legislature. After this, he has never seen back.
Ravi has held many posts in BJP Karnataka Unit. he was the BJP Karnataka Yuva Morcha (the party Youth Wing) President. Later, Rajnath Singh made him Special Invitee and he went on to become the State General Secretary of the party. He also represented the party in press conferences. He is the Youth face of the Bharathiya Janata Party in Karnataka.
He is credited with building the party not only in Chikkamagaluru Taluk, but also the whole of the district and also the state. He ensured BJP comes to power in the "Chikkamagaluru City Municipal Council" and other local bodies.
When Karnataka Legislative Assembly was dissolved in 2007 and Karnataka went to polls in April–May 2008, he was again fielded by BJP from Chikkamagaluru Constituency, but this time against K. B. Mallikarjuna, a Lingayat, who form a considerable Majority in Chikkamagaluru constituency. His winning stride continued, he again won with a thumping majority. the voters of his constituency blessed him for his untiring efforts to develop the constituency. he was largely tipped to make it into B. S. Yediyurappa's constituency, but the party wanted him to be in the organization and strengthen the party. When D. V. Sadananda Gowda's term as State BJP President ended in 2009, he was the first choice among party rank and files, but he refused the offer making way for seniors in the party.
Minister For Higher Education
In 2012 he was named Higher Education Minister. In the post he dealt with Dakshina Kannada, Chikkamagaluru district education and other development projects.
