The film was inspired by Bicycle Thief by Vittorio de Sica, the film that found aspects in Italian neo-realism, experimental film and Cape Verdean reality.

With tabanka music as a backdrop, its narrative parallels Furta Santu (a tabanka ritual) and the protagonist steals a guitar. The form is similarly parallel to Buska Santu (another tabanka ritual) and the search for the instrument.

The cast was largely without experience. The father is played by Carlos Pina and his son by Fábio Furtado.
