Bumi Serpong Damai

Bumi Serpong Damai, commonly referred to BSD City is a privately developed planned community at Serpong district of South Tangerang, within Greater Jakarta in Indonesia.[1][2] The project was initiated in 1984 by a group of private developers and starred in 1989.[3] The town is implemented and managed by the holding company PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk, which is owned by Sinar Mas Land, a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group, a large industrial conglomerate in Indonesia.[4] BSD City encompasses a total area of approximately 6,000 hectares.[5] The homes in the community are designed to be suitable for Indonesia's upper-middle class,[6] in gated neighbourhoods, each with a different theme.[7][8] At the time of project development during 90's, BSD City was the most ambitious urban planning scheme in Indonesia to combine housing, business and commercial properties. BSD is a complete community, with businesses, schools, shopping malls, hospitals and hotels.[9][10][11][12]

Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) is a convention and exhibition centre located at BSD City, which is the biggest convention and exhibition centre in Indonesia.[13]

Education

BSD has several universities within the township, the most renowned are the Swiss German University (has since relocated to Alam Sutera due to land issues), International University Liaison Indonesia - IULI, Prasetiya Mulya University[14] and Atmajaya Catholic University. Furthermore there are several secondary level schools in the area including, BINUS School Serpong Cambridge International School, Saint John, Stella Maris, Al-Azhar BSD, Santa Ursula as well as The German International School Jakarta is also located in the development area.[15]

Infrastructure

Construction of a Smart Digital City is going on, first phase of which is expected to be completed by 2019.[16]Sinar Mas Group has formed a joint-venture with a Japanese consortium led by automotive conglomerate Mitsubishi Corporation to develop a mixed-use area in BSD City, with an investment of more than $260 million.[17]

Smart city and Digital Hub

The developer plans to offer a smart app for the smartphone which can be used as a mobile payment app, or e-wallet, customer loyalty program, community platform and many more. It can be used to access multiple services available in the smart city and make life simpler.

The developer also forged partnership with high-tech giant Huawei Technologies to build a fiber optic network in BSD city.[18] Microsoft is partnered with the developer to transform the township into an integrated smart city.[19]

The Digital Hub is an area of 26 hectares within the township, which is dedicated to startups, communities, educational institutions and also multinational companies that focus on the digital industry and technology.

Healthcare

Eka Hospital is the most important hospital in the township. Medika Hospital, located some kilometres nearby, also provides similar healthcare service.

Shopping & Dining

There are shopping malls and recreation centers such as Aeon Mall, The Breeze, QBIQ, ITC BSD, as well as traditional markets with modern flavors such as BSD Modern Market and Intermoda Modern Market. The Breeze is a good popular site for shopping and eating.

Accommodation

There are hotels at BSD City such as Santika Hotel, POP!Hotel and Grand Zuri Hotel.

Motorsports

The BSD City Grand Prix is a temporary street circuit build in BSD City. It was completed in August 2017 and used for local motorsport events. This street circuit serves as a spiritual successor to the now-defunct Lippo Village International Formula Circuit in Lippo Village.

Transportation

Jakarta–Serpong Toll Road connects BSD City with Jakarta. Serpong railway station, Rawa Buntu railway station, and Cisauk railway station of Jakarta Commuter Rail is situated within and nearby the development. TransJakarta has a feeder route from BSD City to Jelambar in West Jakarta. There are free shuttle and school bus services within the development. There are also shuttle bus services that provides services to MRT's Fatmawati station.

BSD City Intermodal area connects transportation from within and outside the township through Jakarta Commuter Rail, and transportation within the BSD City itself with the free shuttle bus BSD Link that connects several important locations in BSD City.
