Brutally Young (Chinese: 十八年後的終極告白) is a crime and detective television drama produced by TVB. It stars Shaun Tam, Mandy Wong, Joel Chan and Vivien Yeo. Simon Wong Wai-yan serves as the producer.[1][2]

Synopsis

18 years ago, a group of six young boys were involved in the death of one of their classmates, later burying him in the woods. Today as adults, each of the boys walk their own path and professions, but the discovery of the bones belonging to their former classmate forces them to reunite and find a way to keep the police from knowing their secret.

Main characters

  • Shaun Tam as Sam Lam Long-sang (林朗生), an accountant. Since the incident 18 years ago, Sam has become a law abiding man until the resurgence of the incident slowly pushes him over the edge. In the series finale, he is ultimately incarcerated and released 25 years later.
  • Mandy Wong as Yuen Lai-ken / Madam Yuen (阮麗瑾), a police woman who heads her own crime squad in Kowloon. After the death of Ghost Keung, she begins investigating the incident from 18 years ago.
  • Joel Chan as Sum King-yat / Yat Gor (沈敬一), a gangster who leads a faction under Uncle King, rival of Coffin. He falls in love with Sin, later accidentally getting stabbed and killed by Sam.
  • Vivien Yeo as Tse Ka-sin (謝家倩), Chubby Foo's younger sister and a deaf bartender who has had a crush on Yat Gor since childhood. As the series progresses, she becomes pregnant with his baby. In the epilogue, their son is a medical student in college.

Supporting characters

  • Dominic Lam as Yuen Chun / Yuen Sir (阮進), a military surplus store owner and Madam Yuen's father. He was also Zombie's biological father and the seven boy's teacher in high school. Wanting revenge for his son's death, he takes great measures to track down his son's killer. In the epilogue, he is said to have died in the 25 years Sam was in jail.
  • Anthony Ho as Tse Ka-foo / Chubby Foo (謝家富), a Japanese cook and Tse Ka-sin's elder brother.
  • Auston Lam as Fung Wing-Hing / Chui Sui / Blow (馮永興), a real estate agent.
  • Candice Chiu as Joanne Wong Chung-kwan (王頌君), an investment bank manager and Sam's girlfriend, though they later break up due to a case involving illegal matters with a certain cement company.
  • Elvina Kong as Chan Suk-han (陳淑嫻), a housewife, Madam Yuen's mother and Yuen Chun's wife. She is kidnapped by Lai Kwok-Ming, but is accidentally killed by Sam, who sets the boat they were on, on fire.
  • Griselda Yeung as Leung Kit-ching (梁潔貞), a tailor and Ghost Keung's widow. After her husband's death, she struggles to raise her own son alongside handing her tailoring business, but gets assistance from Chubby Foo. In the epilogue, they are married.
  • Mary Hon as Kwong Bo-chu (鄺寶珠), Sam's paraplegic mother. In the epilogue, Sam visits her grave.
  • Gordon Siu as Lee Keung/ Ghost Keung (李強),a driver and Leung Kit Ching's wife. Killed by Lai Kwok-ming in episode 1 while trying to take him to confession.
  • David Do as Sze Man-fu/Tiger(施文虎), a butcher and Chiu Yuk Tai's wife. Killed by Lai Kwok-ming in episode 10 when he discovers Ming spying on his wife.
  • Nicole Wan as Chiu Yuk-tai (趙玉娣),a butcher and Tiger's wife. Killed by Lai Kwok-ming in episode 11 when trying to find Sam.
  • Louis Szeto as Lai Sai-tat/Egg Tart (黎世達),a former waiter at a Tai Tung Tsuen restaurant. Became paralyzed by being pushed down the stairs by Lai Kwok-ming in 2009 while trying to give information to Yuen Chun. Died in episode 20 due to the deterioration of his condition.
  • Kevin Tong as Lai Kwok-ming (賴國明), a security working at Sam's office building. Killed Zombie in 2000, caused Egg Tart to become paralyzed, killed Tiger and Chiu Yuk Tai. Kidnapped Chan Suk-han and Sam in episode 14 and killed by Sam in episode 15.
  • Oman Lam as Wu Kai-sze/Zombie (胡啟思),a scoundrel and the son of Yuen Chun. Killed by Lai Kwok-ming in 2000 by being hit by a brick many times.
  • Ball Mang as Choi Wai-lan/Jackie (蔡慧蘭),a sales and friend of Tse Ka-sin.
  • Ken Law as Kwan Tai-shen (關泰臣),Sum King-yat's loyal assistant. Betrayed Sum King-yat in episode 17 and started helping Coffin. Arrested after being stabbed by a glass by Sum King-yat in episode 19.
  • Stephen Ho as Chui You-chai/Coffin (徐友齊), A gangster and leader of a faction under Uncle King, Sum King-yat's rival. Killed by Sum King-yat in episode 19 when trying to kill him.
  • Shu-fung Cheng as Au Yeung King/Uncle King (歐陽鏡),gangster leader of Sum King-yat and Coffin. Killed in episode 19 by Tiu Chai ordered by Coffin.
  • Milkson Fong as Tiu Chai Fau (跳掣辉),Coffin's assistant. Killed Uncle King in episode 19 under the order by Coffin.
