Brian Oliver (producer)

Brian Oliver is an American film producer, veteran film executive and founder of New Republic Pictures.[1] He was nominated for an Academy Award and BAFTA Film Award in 2010 for Black Swan.

Education

Oliver holds a bachelor's degree from the UC Berkeley, as well as a J.D. from Whittier College School of Law. In college Oliver was an All-Conference infielder on the baseball team.[2]

Career

Oliver started his career at Paramount Pictures, followed by a stint in the Motion Picture department at the William Morris Agency (WMA). He left WMA to become President of Production at Propaganda Films, where he oversaw development and production of their film slate. He then produced Paul Schrader's Auto Focus. Oliver founded Samuels Media (Michael Clayton) before teaming up with Timmy and Tyler Thompson to launch Cross Creek Pictures.

Oliver is an Oscar nominated Producer with three of the films he produced receiving Academy Award nominations for Best Picture: Darren Aronofsky's psychological ballet thriller Black Swan. which he also won the Best Feature Film Award at the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards for Black Swan, and was nominated for a Golden Globe and for the Producers Guild of America Award for Best Picture of the Year. Oliver produced CCP's The Ides of March and received a second Producer's Guild of America Producer of the Year Award nomination for Best Picture of the Year. Additional CCP credits include The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe, and Ron Howard’s Formula One racing biopic, Rush. Other credits include A Walk Among the Tombstones, Everest, and Black Mass. Oliver is the producer of World War II film Hacksaw Ridge, directed by Mel Gibson, and American Made, starring Tom Cruise. In 2017 Brian left Cross Creek Pictures to form New Republic Pictures. The first two films he produced at New Republic Pictures where Rocketman directed by Dexter Fletcher and 1917 directed by Sam Mendes. The Films were nominated Nine Academy Awards and four Golden Globes including Best Picture and won all four Golden globes and four Academy Awards.

To date, the films that Oliver has produced have been nominated for twenty-two Academy Awards, fourteen Golden Globes and thirty three BAFTAs, and have grossed over $3 billion worldwide.

In March 2017, Oliver and Filmula's Johnny Lin acquired rights to the sci-fi project Rise.[3] In September 2017, Oliver and Lin announced production of the horror film Sacrifice.[4]
