Bonda Meedum

Bonda Meedum (Sinhala: බොඳ මීදුම්) is a Sri Lankan television drama based on "Bonda Meedum", a popular series of novels created by Sri Lankan writer Sujeewa Prasanna Arachchi. The series debuted on 15 September 2010 and concluded on 2 September 2011. Independent Television Network was the official broadcaster for the serial. Screening at the 8.30 pm slot, the teledrama exceeded even the popularity of the novel. Udari Warnakulasooriya and Saranga Disasekara were awarded most popular female and male actors of the year, respectively, at the 16th Sumathi Awards 2011.[1]

Plot

Dhanuka is a handsome, innocent boy in his early 20's. He lives in Matale with his parents and sister. Due to their poverty, he goes to Colombo after his studies. His father, Dharmasena sends him to Senarath Maliyadda in order to get a job in his company. Senarath Maliyadde who lives in Nawala is a rich businessman and best friend of Dharmasena.

After a long journey, Dhanuka arrives to Maliyadda's house and Maliyadda treats him as his own son. But, Maliyadda's only daughter, Sansala treats Dhanuka as a outsider. She has received a marriage proposal from her cousin Saliya and insults Dhanuka at several times. But, Dhanuka doesn't care that and slowly loves to Sansala. His manager, Senaka understands Dhanuka's problem and supports him.

Meanwhile, Saliya's mother learns about Dhanuka and plans to send him again to Matale. As a result of this, Saliya's sister who is Senaka's girlfriend calls to Maliyadda's house and introduces her as Dhanuka's girlfriend. After that, Sansala treats him badly and Dhanuka gets breakdown. He left the Maliyadda's home without informing nobody. After that, Sansala gets shocked and feels for Dhanuka slowly. Later Sansala learns that it was Saliya's mother's plan and forgives Dhanuka.

Sansala is now spends time sadly because of Saliya's behaviour. Because of this, Sansala feels for Dhanuka everytime. However, One Day, Dhanuka confesses his love to Sansala at Temple. Sansala is also confesses her love. Dhanuka gets happy and promises her to save her from Saliya. Saliya has a girlfriend named Minoli and hides about Sansala from her. Meanwhile, Maliyadda meets with an accident and Charuni takes Sansala and Kasun to their home. In Saliya's house, Saliya slapes Sansala and bleeds blood from her nose. After that, Dhanuka learns that and hits him. For take the revenge, while Dhanuka was going to his village Saliya kidnaps him and hits him badly. After that, He informs Maliyadda about Dhanuka and Sansala's relation.

After learning that, Maliyadda expels Dhanuka from his house. Dhanuka losts his job and comes to a shop. The shopkeeper learns about Dhanuka's story and helps him. Meanwhile, Maliyadda informs about Dhanuka to Dharmasena and plans Sansala and Saliya's marriage with Sansala's dismay. At that time, Dhanuka gets a waiter job at hotel. One Day, Maliyadda comes to that hotel with his childrens for a dinner. Sansala gets shocked after seeing Dhanuka as a waiter. But, Maliyadda stops her and lefts.

Now, Sansala spends time sadly because of her and Saliya's marriage. Her servant, Kamala tells her to expel from home. But, before the wedding day, Saliya gets arrested at Maliyadda's house for a robbery case. Then, Maliyadda sees Saliya's true colour and breaks all ties with him. Meanwhile, Dhanuka sells vegetables at town with his best friend, Viraj. One Day, Maliyadda sees Dhanuka at the town and gets shocked. At that time, Dharmasena passes away from a heartattack. After that, Maliyadda thinks to help them.
