Bollywood Diaries

Bollywood Diaries is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by K.D.Satyam. It features Raima Sen, Salim Diwan, and Ashish Vidyarthi in lead roles, along with Karuna Pandey and Vineet Kumar Singh.[1] Produced by Dr. Sattar Diwan under the banner of Rehab Pictures Private Limited, the film was released worldwide on 26 February 2016.[2]

Plot

The story is about three unrelated individuals – Rohit (Salim Diwan), a guy working at a call-center in Delhi, Vishnu (Ashish Vidyarthi), a retired middle-aged government servant from Bhilai and Imli (Raima Sen), a prostitute from Sonagachi, Kolkata. All three of them aspire to become Bollywood actors and the story follows their struggle to make it big in Bollywood. The movie also shows the passion and madness of common individuals behind Bollywood. [3]

Cast

Production

Principal photography of the film began in October 2014 and the shooting started the month after that.[4] The film was shot in Bhilai, Kolkata and Delhi. During the filming, Ashish Vidyarthi suffered a mishap when he nearly drowned in river Shivnath before being rescued by a policeman.[5]

The cinematography was by Dev Agarwal, the editing crew was led by Praveen Angre. The dialogues was written by K.D.Satyam and Anand VRS Tomar. Dr. Sagar wrote the lyrics for all the songs in the film. The songs were composed by Vipin Patwa, while the background score was done by Dev Guru. The crew also includes Shrjil Khan as Choreographer, Nilesh S. Gorkshe as Art Director, Tony Arora as Line Producer, Ajay Kumar P. B. as Sound Mixing Engineer, and Mayank Dixit as Casting director.

Critical response

The Deccan Chronicle described Bollywood Diaries as a brilliant tribute to the struggling actors of Bollywood.[6] Martin D'souza of Glamsham called it an honest film with a great connect.[7]

Satyam’s strength as a storyteller comes to the fore since he delves well into the psyche of these diverse characters, without making it come across as overburdening or depressing. The cinematography by Dev Agarwal was brilliant as he is creates stark images, capturing the energy of the characters with an unforced realism.
