Bold Heath
Bold Heath is a hamlet (effectively a suburb of Widnes) in the English county of Merseyside.
Location
Historically part of Lancashire, Bold Heath lies on the A57 road at its junction with the A569, 2 1⁄4 miles (3.6 km) north of the Cheshire town of Widnes and 5 miles (8.0 km) south of St Helens. It is to the east of Rainhill and west of Great Sankey.
Administratively it forms part of the civil parish of Bold and the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens. The area has a Chinese restaurant, The Maplewood, a food and family orientated public house, The Griffin, a golf club (Mersey Valley Golf Club) and a garden center (Bold Heath Garden Centre). There is also a kindergarten (Building Blocks Day Nursery).
Bold Heath is very close to a large art installation / statue called 'THE DREAM' which can be found on reclaimed colliery land in nearby Sutton Manor. The area now hosts a long public footpath that was formerly the southern section of the old St. Helens and Runcorn Gap Railway Line. The footpath is surrounded by farmland and has a number of other nature walks to enjoy. These features are popular with cyclists, dog walkers and local running and fitness clubs. Lamping (rabbit hunting) also occasionally takes place and birds of prey can sometimes be seen nesting in the area.
Many people also keep horses in Bold Heath. Bold Heath Equestrian Center offers an extensive range of horse keeping services and runs regular events throughout the year. Also, there are a number of private residences advertising small farm shops that sell homegrown organic produce, plants and flowers.
Bold Heath is also the former site of Bold Hall (no longer standing). The original pillars of the gate for the main entrance can still be seen on the grounds of Mersey Valley Golf Club.
