Blue Dog Pict

Blue Dog Pict fused rock, jazz, Cabaret, performance art, glam, ambient-electronica and alternative sensibilities together to form what some compared to Pink Floyd, Mr. Bungle and My Bloody Valentine.

Led by frontman actor/multi-media artist Keram Malicki-Sanchez, the Toronto-based alternative band also featured Peter Devlin (original guitarist), actor Keith White (bass guitar), Daniel Kovacevic (guitar), and Jeff Hayward (drums). The band's first album was produced by the band alongside producing partners Mario Marengo and David Buchanan at Eastern Sound studios in Toronto.

The same producing team came together for the band's sophomore release "Anxiety of Influence: a nodding into...?" recorded at Sounds Interchange in Toronto and took two years in the studio to record.[1]

The third and final album "Spindly Light und Wax Rocketines" was produced by Malicki-Sanchez and longtime soundman for the band Joshua Miles Joudrie at Number Nine Sound in Toronto.[2]

Danny Kovacevic was the guitarist on the theme song for the TV series Catwalk produced by Marengo and Buchanan and in which Malicki-Sanchez played the role of "Johnny Camden."

Blue Dog Pict fans were referred to as Sky Pirates and were much like the Grateful Dead's "Deadheads" in their devotion - every Blue Dog Pict show carried a theme, and their fans brought props, costumes and other items to follow suit.

Blue Dog Pict's song "One Hour's Sleep" was featured in the Degrassi High follow-up telefilm, School's Out.

The band dissolved in 1996, but their fan community persisted well into the next decade.

Bassist Keith White formed a band called Oliver Twiggens that brought Blue Dog Pict guitarist Danny Kovecevic in and also featured drummer Stefan Sezniak. They released one album together.

Their online community forums Freedom@ConstantChange ran on a phpNuke framework from 2001 through 2006. The Sky Pirates celebrate Robot Pride Day, a holiday based on a song by the band, on August 4 every year.

In 2008, frontman Keram Malicki-Sanchez and original Blue Dog Pict guitarist Peter Devlin reunited onstage to play the NXNE music conference festival in Toronto, Ontario, Canada under the moniker Keram under which name he released two solo albums - "Box" and "Come to Life" - that latter of which was executive produced by and features performances by Alex Lifeson of Rush.[3]
