Black American

(Also known as Afro-Americans) A term that subcategorizes the Black identity in America, to specifically represent those that do not have any ties to Africa. Black Americans constitute the third largest ethnic group and the second-largest racial group in the US, after White Americans and Hispanic and Latino Americans. The term Black American empowers those that are black in America, to seek justice and reconciliation from the US government for 400+ years of past and present-day racism.

The need to subcategorize came about due to the mixing of newly immigrated Africans into the US population in the 1990s. Initiatives to undo the wrongs of America's past include resource allocation that should specifically be used for Black Americans.
