Bilkanai

Bilkanai is a village in the Shangla District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is situated in Union Council Pirkhana, Tehsil Alpurai, District Shangla.

History

Before akhund salak (Akhund Baba) visited and concurred these areas on his visit (ghazaa) from Afghanistan, all these areas were populated by Hindus, but after Akhund Baba, the Hindus were either killed or became Muslims while some ran away. Then Akund Baba sons and grandsons started living in different parts of Shangla including Bilkanai, Kabal Gram, Lilownai and Ajmir to name a few. One of his grandsons Pirkhan Baba lived in Bilkanai and now his grandsons are in Bilakani and Ajmir, called Miangaan. The name of the Union Council is Pirkhana and is named after Pirkhan Baba whose Grave Mubarak is situated in Bilkanai in Miangaano Graveyard.

Bilkanai was damaged by earthquakes in 1974 and 2005, with many people suffering damage.[1] It was also hit severely during 2010 floods which caused some deaths and a number of casualties and left many people homeless.[2]
