The airport is on the Colorado River, near the Caribbean coast. North approach and departure are over the river.

The Barra Del Colorado non-directional beacon (Ident: COL) is located on the field. The Limon VOR-DME (Ident: LIO) is located 58.5 nautical miles (108 km) southeast of the airport.[5][6]
