BakuCard

BakıKART (Azerbaijani: "BakıKART") is a new electronic single payment card designed to meet the demands of passengers following international standards applied in public transport of Baku, Azerbaijan from August 2015.[1][2] Baku Metro, BakuBus lines operate under BakıKART system in the initial phase.[3]

History

Baku Metropolitan accepted tokens as a payment for metro ride up until March 1, 2006. In 2007 fares for subway ride were realized only through  RFID cards named “Metro Card”.[1][4] Metro Card was only available to pay for Baku Metro and cost 2 AZN. Metro Card was replaced with BakıKART on the 8th of August 2015. During this period balance and initial value of Metro Card could be transferred into BakıKART.[2]

Overview

BakıKART is applied to pay the subway fare, as well as bus fare on BakuBus lines. Two types of cards are used in a single system:

  • BakıKART (Plastic card).
  • BakıKART with limited access (Paper card).[1] Valid 45 days.[5]

Both cards can be purchased at BakuCard terminals at Baku metro stations, press kiosks, bus stops and other points with the BakıKART logo. BakıKART balance can be replenished using 10, 20, 50 kopecks coins, and 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 AZN banknotes at terminals.[6][7]

BakıKART Plastic Card

Price of a card is 2 AZN and is non-refundable. The cost of a one way metro fare is 0.30 AZN,[6] bus fare changes based on distance according to Decision №7 (30 July 2018) of Tariff Council of Azerbaijan Republic.[8]

Plastic cards can be refilled at terminals. They are recommended for passengers who regularly use public transport.[6]

BakıKART Paper card

Price of a card is 0.50 AZN and is non-refundable. Paper card cannot be refilled at terminals, only available for 1, 2, 3 or 4 passes. These cards are intended for visitors of Baku city and city residents who rarely use public transport.[6]
