Aattakalasam

Balachandran (played by Prem Nazir) is a successful businessman and devout family man to his wife Indu (Lakshmi) and their three children. He also has a younger brother Babu (Mohanlal), a young doctor who loves his brother and sister-in-law like his own parents.

One evening, Babu meets his gang of friends who urge him to go to a bar and drink. An inebriated Babu returns home and chances upon Indu, who reminds him of the sensual exotic dancer at the bar, and forcibly kisses her. Balachandran sees them and in his rage-filled state of mind, imagines that his brother is having an affair with his wife, thereby throwing Babu out of his house.

Ashamed at his actions, Babu finds solace in a nearby village and becomes a doctor to help the villagers who helped him. He also falls for a neighborhood girl who reciprocates his feelings, much to the chagrin of a village goon who was after her. Meanwhile, Balachandran allows Indu to stay in his home, but mistreats and humiliates her in every way possible, even to the extent of bringing a young girl and her scheming mother to live with him and openly flirting with her.

In the end, Balachandran realises his mistake when he figures out that the girl and her mother were only after his money, and patches things up with Indu. However, their happiness is short-lived as Babu is fatally stabbed by the goon on the eve of his marriage to the neighbor girl. He dies peacefully with Balachandran and Indu by his side, knowing that his mistake is finally undone.

The music was composed by Raveendran and the lyrics were written by Poovachal Khader.
