Annie Murphy

Annie Murphy (born c. 1986/1987)[1] is a Canadian actress, known for playing Alexis Rose on the CBC sitcom Schitt's Creek (2015–2020).

Early life

Murphy was born an only child in Ottawa, Ontario.[2][3] She attended high school at Elmwood School in Ottawa, where she performed in various stage productions.[4] Murphy enrolled at Queen's University for one year before deciding to pursue a degree in theatre performance at Concordia University.[3] She then trained at the Canadian Film Centre Actors' Conservatory.[4]

Career

From 2015 to 2020, Murphy played Alexis Rose on the CBC sitcom Schitt's Creek.[5][6][7][8]

Activism and public advocacy

Murphy is an ambassador for CARE Canada, a global relief agency. In 2019, she visited Jordan to learn about CARE's efforts to empower women and girls in the region.[9]

Personal life

Murphy is married to singer and musician Menno Versteeg.[10] In 2013, they lost their apartment in a fire. Nobody was injured, but most of their material belongings were lost.[2]

Murphy has a tattoo of James Stewart's silhouette on her wrist, citing his "heartbreaking, sweet, and funny" performance in Harvey (1950) as one of her influences.[11]
