Angelina Sergeyevna Danilova

Angelina Sergeyevna Danilova (Russian: Ангелина Сергеевна Данилова, Korean: 안젤리나 다닐로바, Chinese: 安吉麗娜·謝爾蓋耶夫娜·丹妮洛娃) is a Russian singer, model and actress under The Prizm Entertainment. She made her solo singing debut with the digital single "As You Are" on January 17, 2020.[1] She was the 2018 recipient of the Korea Image Flower Stone Award for her work promoting Korea to the world. [2]

Biography

Early life

Angelina was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Her nationality is Russian. She studied interior design at the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technology and Design.

Career

In 2015, Angelina turned into an sensation when a Korean user reposted an image of her from 2014 to a Korean community with the caption "Russian model who wants to marry a Korean man". The post quickly became viral in Korea across all media platforms.

In 2016, Palette Media scouted her through her Instagram and invited her to Korea for the filming and production of the reality survival show called "Babel 250" in which Angelina lived with six others cast members from across the globe and tried to establish friendships while breaking cultural and linguistic barriers.

Since her appearance on the show, Angelina was met with success in Korean media and has appeared in over 10 television shows in the span of 3 years and has even had a movie role in New Old Story where she was cast as Cinderella. [3]

She was featured in a music video for the song "Eyescream" by Hanhae.[4]

She became the face of the Tale of Five Kingdoms, a mobile game developed by 4:33 Creative Lab, as well as the main model of the cosmetics brand Banila Co., alongside Taeyeon from Girls' Generation. The influence Danilova wields in promoting Korean culture on social media didn't go unnoticed. The hundreds of pictures she posts about life, culture and food in Korea all reach her 600,000 followers, many of whom aren't Korean. [5]

The Corea Image Communication Institute (CICI), a nonprofit organization that promotes Korean culture abroad, chose her to be the 2018 recipient of the Korea Image Flower Stone Award for her work promoting Korea to the world. Fellow recipients that day included Sohn Kyung-shik, chairman of CJ Group, the food and media conglomerate, and Joachim Son-Forget, the first Korean-born member of the French National Assembly. [6] Past award winners of CICI Korea Image Awards include K-pop stars Psy and Rain, maestro Chung Myung-whun, jazz singer Nah Youn-sun, Chinese actress Tang Wei, the Chairman & CEO of Amorepacific Corporation Suh Kyung-bae, Kwangjuyo President Cho Tae-kwon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon, France's Digital Economy Minister Fleur Pellerin, golfer Pak Se-ri, skater Shim Suk-hee, ballet dancer Park Sae-eun, YouTubers Josh Carrott and Ollie Kendal, Samsung Galaxy Android series of smartphones and Google's AlphaGo. Personal life

Angelina's interest in Korean culture began when she watched a video from the finebros titled "YouTubers React to K-pop". [11]

She uploads videos to her youtube channel (currently amassing more than 100K subscribers)[12]. Her videos are usually vlogs about her life, makeup tutorials and song covers.

She has stated her hobbies include: dancing, singing, playing ukulele, listening to music, fashion, traveling, horse riding, snowboarding, kite surfing, drawing and filming videos. One of her artistic aspirations is music composition.[13]

Controversy

In 2018, Angelina left Palette Media and joined her current agency the Prism Entertainment. Palette Media accused her of fraud, filed a complaint with the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office against Angelina, accusing her of failing to fulfill her contractual obligations and entering into a contract with another agency, The Prism Entertainment, without Palette Media's agreement. Palette Media claimed it made an exclusive three-year (2016-2019) contract with Angelina, who rose to fame on social media as "the hottest K-pop fan" a couple of years ago. Palette Media alleged that she took part in promotional events and received sponsorship on several occasions without the agency's permission. Separately, the agency said it has filed a damages suit against her for her "illegal commercial activities."[14]
