Andy Jassy

Andrew R. Jassy (born 1967/68) is an American businessman, and the CEO of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud computing business. He is also one of the minority owners of the future National Hockey League team in Seattle.

Early life

Andrew R. Jassy is the son of Margery and Everett L. Jassy of Scarsdale, New York.[2] His father was a senior partner in the corporate law firm Dewey Ballantine in New York, and chairman of the firm's management committee.[2] Jassy grew up in Scarsdale and attended Scarsdale High School.[3]. He is Jewish [2] .

Jassy earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard College, where he was advertising manager of The Harvard Crimson, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School.[4][5]

Career

In 1997, Jassy joined Amazon as a marketing manager.[4] In 2003, Jassy founded Amazon Web Services, with a team of 57 people.[6] In April 2016, Jassy was promoted from senior vice president to CEO of AWS.[7][5] In 2016, Jassy earned $36.6 million.[8]

In 2018, for his work at Amazon, Jassy earned a base compensation of $175,000 plus restricted stock unit award of 4,023 shares in Amazon [9]

Jassy has been outspoken in his criticism of rival company Oracle.[10]

Jassy is the chairman of Rainier Prep, a charter school in Seattle.[11]

Personal life

In 1997, Jassy married Elana Rochelle Caplan, a fashion designer.[2]
