Andrew Farkas

Andrew Farkas is a writer who was born in Akron, Ohio in 1978. He currently lives in Lawrence, Kansas and is an Assistant Professor of English at Washburn University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.F.A. from the University of Alabama, an M.A. from the University of Tennessee, and a B.A. from Kent State University.

Past Work

Andrew Farkas is the author of a novel, The Big Red Herring[1] (KERNPUNKT Press 2019), and two collections of short fiction, Sunsphere[2] (BlazeVOX [books] 2019) and Self-Titled Debut[3] (Subito Press 2009). His fiction and creative nonfiction have appeared in The Iowa Review, North American Review, The Cincinnati Review, The Florida Review, and elsewhere. His novel was a finalist in the 2019 Big Other Book Award in Fiction and in the Foreword INDIES Humor Category (Adult Fiction). He has been nominated six times for a Pushcart Prize, including a Special Mention in Pushcart Prize XXXV for the story "The Ballad of Ailin' Alan Smithee" and a Notable Essay in Best American Essays 2013 for "Somewhere Better Than This Place."
