Andra (singer)

Alexandra Irina Măruță (born 23 August 1986), better known by her stage name Andra, is a Romanian singer and judge at Românii au talent.[1] In 2007, she received Gold and Platinum certification for the album De la frate la soră.[2] She collaborated with Dan Bittman, Direcția 5, What's Up, Vunk, Marcel Pavel, Marius Moga, Smiley and the band Simplu. AndraAlex presented the TV shows Singuri cu vedeta on Antena 1 and O-la-la on Pro TV.In 2013 she was nominated at the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Romanian Act at the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards. In 2014 she won the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Romanian Act at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.[3] her song, "Why", reached number 8 on Billboard. Her other songs "Lie to Me" and "Sweet Dreams" also enjoyed critical successes.

Starting her musical career at the age of 7, she had her first performance in the musical competition broadcast by TVR, entitled "Tip Top Minitop" - made by Oana Ionescu - as a guest, performing Whitney Houston's song I Will Always Love You. In addition to pop music, she also played alternative folk music, for which she went to a contest entitled Pe fir de baladă at the age of 9, which took place at Târgu Jiu. After the contest was over, Andra failed to get one of the top three places but won a mention. At the age of 11, she participated in another contest entitled Toamna Arieşean, a Folk Interpretation Contest Festival where this time she won first place.

Andra released her first single in 2001, at just 14 years old, managing to reach the top of the list within Romanian Top 100, maintaining herself there to date.

In October 2013, her song, "K. la Meteo" in collaboration with What's Up, was nominated for Best Romanian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Andra released new hits in April 2013 "Inevitabil va fi bine", in December 2013 "Atâta timp cât mă iubești!" with Marius Moga, in February 2014 with Vunk "Numai la doi", in July 2014, with Liviu Teodorescu "Așa e dragostea", in January 2015, with Shift "Avioane de hârtie", in April 2015, with Proconsul and Ștefan Bănica "Aici cu mine", in May 2015 "Falava" In June 2015, "Nebuni în noapte," in August 2015, "Niciodată nu spune niciodată," in February 2016, "Iubirea schimbă tot" and the latest single, in collaboration with David Bisbal, "Without You," which managed to accumulate over 13 million views in 9 days of release.

In 2017, Sony Pictures choose the Romanian star to provides the Romanian voice of Smurfette from the animated movie Smurfs: The Lost Village,[4] becoming the third experience for the artist, after she dubbed the Romanian voice of a goose in Kung Fu Panda 3 in 2016.

To date, the artist has released 12 albums, her music has had real success both in Romania and abroad, selling over 500,000 copies.
