Anaimalai

Anaimalai is a new taluk separated from Pollachi in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu state, India. As per Govt. of Tamil Nadu, it's declared as a new Taluk from 25 October 2018. There are around 31 Villages has been part of Anaimalai Taluk.

The name Anai is derived from the Tamil word anai or ana, meaning elephant and malai or mala, meaning hill — thus Elephant Hill.

Agriculture is the main occupation in Anaimalai. Coconut, Paddy, Mango, Banana, Sugarcane, Ground nut and Vanilla are the main cultivation done here. Anaimalai is a famous pilgrimage spot, due to the presence of powerful goddess Maasani Amman.

Anaimalai is located at 10.58°N 76.93°E / 10.58; 76.93.[1] It has an average elevation of 2.58 metres. As it's close to Kerala, it will receive both Southwest and Northeast monsoon through the year.

Demographics

As per the Population Census 2011, there are total 4,933 families residing in the Anaimalai city. The total population of Anaimalai is 17,208 out of which 8,279 are males and 8,929 are females thus the Average Sex Ratio of Anaimalai is 1,079.

As per the Census 2011, the literacy rate of Anaimalai is 78.9%. Thus Anaimalai has lower literacy rate compared to 84% of Coimbatore district. The male literacy rate is 85.59% and the female literacy rate is 72.67% in Anaimalai.

Anaimalai is well connected by Road, Rail and Air as well. Coimbatore International Airport is the nearest airport and Anaimalai road railway station and Pollachi Railway Station are the nearest railway stations.

Economy

The economy of Anaimalai is predominantly dependent on agriculture. There are also coir manufacturing units around the area with raw materials sourced from local farms. Anaimalai is also a popular movie shooting location for the Tamil film industry owing to its scenic landscape.

Anaimalai is well known for its pleasant weather all over the year. The "Aliyar" and "Uppar" rivers run through it and it's also close to Topslip. Masaniamman Temple, Perumal Swamy mount Temple, Someswaran Temple, Saibaba Temple, Azhukku Swamy Siddhar Temple & Deivakulam Kaaliamman Temple are famous Temples around the area.

Anaimalai wildlife Sanctuary and Parambikulam Tiger Reserve are the wildlife sanctuaries around the area.
