Life and career

Ana Nikolić was born in Jagodina on September 27, 1978, but was raised in Paraćin where she graduated form gymnasium. She rose to prominence in the national selection festival for the Eurovision Song Contest 2003, called Beovizija with the song 'Januar' (January), finishing seventh. However, Nikolić managed to sign a recording contract with City Records and to release her debut album of the same title in August the following year. She then returned for Beovizija 2006, finishing as the runner-up with 'Romale, romali', which was later included to her sophomore release, Devojka od čokolade (Girl Made Of Chocolate). Nikolić also reached final of Beovizija 2009 with 'Bili smo najlepši' (We Were the Most Beautiful), but following a suspicious voting process decided not to take part further more. In 2010, she saw great commercial success with the forthcoming album, titled Mafia Caffe.

In April of 2012, Nikolić released single "Baksuze" (Jinx). In July 2013, she released Milion dolara (Million Dollars). In July 2015, Nikolić released single "Voli me, voli me" (Love Me, Love Me).[1] Its music video, directed by Dejan Milićević, received scrutiny for copying scenes from several other music videos by different global popstars such as Mariah Carey's "Heartbreaker", Beyoncé's "Partition" and Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda". In May 2016, she then released Labilna (Labile), which marked a significant departure from her previous work to a more urban sound. While working on her fifth album, Nikolić secretly started dating Serbian producer and recording artist Stefan Đurić Rasta, whom got married in July 2016.[2] The couple later appeared as judges on Serbian spin-off of Got Talent franchise.[3] Nikolić and Rasta also recorded a duet, "Slučajnost" (Coincidence), which was released in June 2017 and was later included in Rasta's Indigo studio album.[4] Same year, she gave birth to daughter Tara on August 3rd, but eventually separated from Đurić the following year.[5][6] After the pregnancy, she decided to take a break from music to focus on motherhood and her body image issue regarding a significant and highly publicised weight gain.[7]
