Aminomethyl group

In organic chemistry, an aminomethyl group is a monovalent functional group with formula −CH
2
−NH
2
or −CH
4
N
. It can be described as a methylene bridge −CH
2
with one bond filled by an amino group −NH
2
.

It is one of a series of 1-aminoalkyl groups of the form −(CH
2
−)
n
NH
2

Aminomethyl is used in the standard (IUPAC) names of some compounds,[2] such as 4-(aminomethyl) benzoic acid.
