Alice on the Roof

Alice Dutoit alias Alice on the Roof (word play with the translation of her family name; Soignies, January 23, 1995) is a Belgian singer.[1]

Life

Her mother is an architect and her father is an electrical engineer. She studied piano and singing choral music in a music school from 2001 till 2012, and after a bachelor of arts, she went to Brookings, Oregon, to improve her English with a Rotary International scholarship. At Brookings school, she also followed daily piano and choir classes. She now lives in Sirault, Belgium, in the Mons area.

Revealed during the third edition of The Voice Belgique, where she was eliminated during the semi-finals, she published her first single Easy come easy go in avril 2015, with the help of Marc Pinilla.[2] The single gets a huge success in her homeland, where he is the fourth best selling single of the year 2015.[3] It becomes number 1 in the Ultratop and stays in the list for thirty-five weeks.[4] It also gets the 43th position of the Ultratop in Flanders. Alice on the Roof receives a golden record on November 27, 2015, for this title.[5] Her second single, Mystery Light, reaches the fifth position in Wallonia Ultratop and thirty-fifth position in Flanders.[6] Alice mentions her parents and Kate Bush as inspiration for her music and lyrics.[7]

Her first album, Higher, is out on January 22, 2016.[8] It becomes # of Ultratop Wallonia et 17 in Flanders.[9]

Alice on the Roof receives three awards (those of solo artist of the year, revelation of the year, and PureFM artist of the year) during the first edition of the D6Bels Music Awards.[10] She receives the pop artist award for 2018 during the des 4th D6Bels Music Awards.[11]

In 2017, in the movie theaters, her title Easy Come Easy Go is part of the soundtrack of Belgian-French comedy Don't Tell Her.

In 2018, the first single of her second album is out, Malade, co-written with French author, composer and singer Vianney, followed by "How Long" and "T'as quitté la planète" in 2019.

On March 17, 2019, she is the guest of Joelle Schoriels on Belgian TV (RTBF) for "69 minutes sans chichis". People discover a sparking, spontaneous, an generous artist, as confirmed by her friends appearing in the show.[12] She continues on March 30, 2019, with her most complete show to date, in Forest National, with Vianney as a surprise guest . The artists appears in a magical universe, in which she gives the full measure of her scenic talent, mixing moments of pure energy and moments of grace. The visual composition of the show is particularly sought after.[13] Excerpts of this show can be seen in the clip of her latest single, "La Fille sur le Toit", completely shot in Forest.

Alice on the roof tours in Belgium and France in 2019. In September 2019 she makes gets a white card at the Francofolies de Spa, where she invites many Belgian artists. In October 2019, she performs in Paris during 5 evenings the first part of Vincent Delerm at La Cigale.

Alice Dutoit plays one of the main parts in a Belgian movie which is scheduled in 2020.
