Alex Hall (actress)

Alex Hall (born Patricia Anne Thompson now Fisher,[1] 17 July 1949 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire) is a British actress and radio presenter.

Early life

Her father was a semi-professional footballer for Nuneaton FC. She lived in Peterlee from the age of 3 until 10, then in Billingham both Stockton Street and York Crescent, when her father worked for ICI. She attended St John the Evangelist Primary and St Joseph's Convent grammar school in Hartlepool. She worked in the advertising sales department of the Northern Echo and the Evening Gazette.[2]

Television career

She appeared in many episodes of ITV's Emmerdale (99-01) as Headteacher of Hotten Comprehensive, Jean Strickland. Her character was killed after a hit and run involving a number of her students. Alex had previously appeared in many well known TV shows including Coronation Street, Prime Suspect, Spender, Byker Grove and Harry.

Since Emmerdale, TV roles have included Wendy Frost in Bodies with Max Beesley and Keith Allen and Brenda, the dizzy Little Chef waitress in Max and Paddy's Road to Nowhere. Alex also appeared in the BBC1 children's drama Clay and will be seen in the spring of 2010 in the current series Waterloo Road

Radio career

Alex started out on the late-night phone-in on TFM in Thornaby-on-Tees. In 1990, she joined the original line up of Magic 828 where she presented the late show. She later moved to Radio Leeds, then went on to host a phone in on Bradford's The Pulse. In 2000, she crossed over to Radio York, then to Radio Leeds, hosting the Alex Hall Late Night Phone In on the BBC Night Network between 10:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. from January 2002 until May 2006. She returned to cover Russel Walker on the Late Night Show in July 2015 for a few weeks. She currently hosts a weekly show on Sunday's BBC Tees from 17:00 - 19:00 Songs from the Shows.[3] Her mid-morning phone-in show was axed in favour of a show presented by ex-Gladiator Jet — Diane Youdale — and co-host Neil Green.[1] She was also a columnist for the Telegraph & Argus. From 6 January 2013, Alex has been the presenter of Songs from the Shows on BBC Newcastle.
