Alex Beard (businessman)

Alexander Frank Beard[3] (born 1967) is a British billionaire businessman, based in London and responsible for Glencore's worldwide oil operations.

Early life

Alex Beard attended Gravesend Grammar School for Boys between 1980 and 1985. He earned a degree in Biochemistry from Oxford University in 1989.[4][1]

Career

Beard worked as an oil trader for BP from 1990–95, when he joined Glencore.[5] In 2007, he was appointed director in charge of Glencore's oil commodity department.[3][1]

According to Forbes, he is worth $1.6 billion. He is a non-executive director of Chemoil.[1]

In June 2019, it was announced Beard will step down as the head of Glencore's oil division. His departure followed the resignation of Aristotelis Mistakidis.[6][7]

Personal life

He is married and lives in London.[1]

Beard was made an honorary student of Christ Church in 2012. He also donated £6m towards the Oxford Bursary Scheme for Christ Church undergraduates.[8] He joined the board of trustees for Shakespeare's Globe in London in 2017.[9]
