Akhbare Islamia

Akhbare Islamia was a historic journal published from Tangail District of Bengal.

History

Akhbare Islamia was founded in April 1884 by the zamindar of Karatia, Mohammad Ali Khan Panni. It was edited by Mohammad Naimuddin. It published till 1894 and restarted publication in April 1896. The magazine published works on Islam and Islamic life.[1] The magazine was part of an Islamic revival in Bengal that promoted Orthodox Islam and discouraged religious syncretism that was common among Bengali Muslims. The movement was fundamentalist in nature that discouraged secular books and music.[2] It had legal disputes with its contemporary The Ahmadi, a secular Muslim magazine.[3]
