Ajit Kumar Bhuyan

Ajit Kumar Bhuyan is an Indian journalist and former editor of the Prag News and Rajya Sabha MP from Assam State. He is elected unopposed for the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian Parliament, from Assam on 18 March 2020. He is elected unopposed as there are only 3 candidates for the 3 seats from Assam in 2020.

He has said in press conference after his unopposed election as MP that CAA is the reason behind joining politics. His candidature was supported by Indian National Congress and All India United Democratic Front. Tarun Gogoi and Badruddin Ajmal were present during his nomination. Mr Bhuyan is open critic of Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 brought by Narendra Modi led BJP Government. [1][2]

Personal life

Ajit Kumar Bhuyan was born in Jorhat, India in 1952. He had his early schooling in Amguri High School, in Sibsagar district, Assam and attended college in Sibsagar College. Before he could graduate, he joined the Janambhumi, published from Jorhat, as a sub-editor. While still working as a sub-editor, he earned his BA degree from Jhanji Hemnath Sarma College, Sivasagar.
