House of Aigas
The House of Aigas is a historic building in Aigas, it is now used as Aigas Field Centre, owned and run by celebrated author and conservationist John Lister-Kaye for over 40 years. The central part of the house dates back to the 1770s, with later Victorian Scots baronial style additions. The Aigas Estate has been dedicated to restoration ecology since the 1970s.
The hamlet of Crask of Aigas is a short distance to the east. Eilean Aigas is a nearby island in the River Beauly. The Eilean Aigas House was for some time the home of Welsh brothers John Carter Allen and Charles Manning Allen, who called themselves the Sobieski Stuarts and spent their time inventing or formalising Scottish tartans.
