Development

The film was launched on 8 October 2019 on the occasion of Vijayadashami tentatively titled as #Chiru152.[3] The film marks the maiden collaboration of Chiranjeevi with the director Koratala Siva.[4] Actress Trisha was cast as the lead female role but due to creative differences she walked out of the film.[5] Makers approached Kajal Aggarwal instead and Aggarwal confirmed that she was doing the film.[6] The title was accidentally revealed as Acharya by Chiranjeevi during audio launch of the film O Piita Katha on 1 March 2020.[7][8] There were reports that Mahesh Babu was approached for an extended cameo.[9] However, Chiranjeevi confirmed that his son Ram Charan would be doing the role.[10][11]

Filming

Principal photography began in January 2020.[12][13] Important portions were shot with Chiranjeevi and others at Ramoji Film City.[9] The filming was going at a brisk pace until it was suspended in March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic.[14]
