Abbreviation of Republic of China

The Abbreviation for the Republic of China has varied according to the geopolitical situation. Initially people used to simply call the Republic of China China until 1971 at the time that People's Republic of China was substituted for the Republic of China as the exclusive legitimate representative of China.[1][2][3] In order to distinguish Republic of China from People's Republic of China, there has been a growing current of support for the use of Taiwan in place of China to represent the Republic of China.[4][5]
