AIFF Player of the Year

The AIFF Player of the Year is an annual association football award presented to the best footballer in India over the previous year.[1] It has been awarded by All India Football Federation since 1992. I.M. Vijayan was the inaugural winner. The most recent recipient of the award is Sunil Chhetri.[2][3] Twice in 1998 and 1999 the award was not announced and re-introduced from 2000.[4]

AIFF Women’s Player of the Year was first introduced in 2001. Oinam Bembem Devi was the first recipient of the award.[5] But since 2001 to 2012 no women's award was announced. Again in 2013, the award was re-introduced with Bembem Devi winning the award for the second time and since being announced every year.[4]

I. M. Vijayan was the first player to receive the award in 1992 and also the first player to retain it consecutively in 1997 and 2000 (no award in 1998 and 1999). He received the award three times.[4] Sunil Chhetri has received the award for a record six times in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017 and most recently for 2018−19 season.[6] Jo Paul Ancheri and Bhaichung Bhutia received the award twice.[7]

Oinam Bembem Devi was the first recipient of the award in 2001 and after that there was no awardee between 2002 and 2012 but Bembem Devi retain it when it was again awarded in 2013.[4] Ngangom Bala Devi also won it twice in 2014 and 2015.[8][9]
