Second-seeded Jimmy Connors defeated Phil Dent 7–6(9–7), 6–4, 4–6, 6–3 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1974 Australian Open.

John Newcombe was the defending champion, but lost in the quarterfinals to Ross Case.
