104th Operational Maneuvers Regiment

The 104th operational maneuvers regiment was created on 2 November 2005 by a presidential decree in order to support the ex-Algerian SIG and to participate with them to the counter-terrorism operations in Algeria.

Moreover, the Algerian land forces wanted to have their special forces regiment because before the creation of the 104th RMO the Algerian army had only 1 special forces unit, the Special Intervention Group, and 6 special regiments from paratroopers but they aren't special forces regiment like the 104th RMO but a special regiment like the 75th Rangers of the US Army.

With their training to the US special forces "green berets" the 104th RMO is considered as the Algerian equivalent of the US green berets while their colleagues from the 116th RMO is considered as the equivalent of the US Delta force.

They participated in training exercises with the US special forces in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in the United States.[1]

The headquarters of the 104th RMO is in the same city as the Commando and Parachute Training and Initiation School (EFCIP) in Boghar.

The 104th RMO has several special-purpose companies.[2][3]

• The Mountain/forest/desert company
• The counter terrorism and hostage rescue company
• The urban company
• The support company
• The marine/river company
• The recognition company

Moreover, some companies has special teams of operational helicopters.[4]

The missions of the 104th RMO are :[2]

• The anti-terrorism lutte
• The hostage rescue
• The anti guerilla lutte
• Neutralization of dangerous fanatics or criminals
• Special operations
• Research and destruction

The 104th RMO operators are trained in the Special Troops Superior School (ESTS) in Biskra for the skydiving and the special operations, and they're trained too in the commando and parachute training and initiation (EFCIP) in Boghar on commando techniques, survival, healing and second level special operations. For that the 104th RMO has a training plateform with several buildings and houses in order to the 104th RMO operators practice the counter terrorism and hostage rescue training.[5]
