Youth for Technology

The Youth for Technology Foundation (YTF) is an international non-profit organization that works across 6 different countries to create enriched learning communities where the use of technology affords opportunities for disadvantaged people, particularly youth and women. YTF’s programs span across education, civics, health, entrepreneurship, leadership and technology.

Description

YTF was founded by Njideka Harry in 2000. In 2010, Harry was nominated to receive the Microsoft Alumni Foundation Integral Award.

In 2007, the United Nations Volunteer Services recognized YTF as an online team of the year award for its collaboration with and involvement of international volunteers towards fulfilling YTF’s vision. In 2010, the World Bank Fair selected YTF’s Yes, Youth Can! civic program as a winner in the Innovation Fair.

Yes, Youth Can

Yes, Youth Can! is a civic education program that combines workshops, youth-led activities, information and communications technology resources to build theoretical knowledge and deepen youths' understanding of activism, civic participation and the tenets of democracy. Yes, Youth Can! receives support from the National Endowment for Democracy.

LearNations

LearNations starts with an understanding of social and economic issues in the participant’s environment and leverages technology to help research the problems, produce and disseminate educational material and implement solutions. Youth are the stakeholders and decide what topic is important to them, based on issues that matter the most to them in their community.

Program Offering Women Empowerment Resources (POWER)

POWER provides practical information to women on conflict management, managing groups, marketing and fundraising skills, advocacy and decision-making, business planning, HIV/AIDS and gender. POWER receives support from the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
