Young and Dangerous 5 (simplified Chinese: 98古惑仔之龙争虎斗; traditional Chinese: 98古惑仔之龍爭虎鬥) is a 1998 Hong Kong triad film. It is the fourth sequel in the Young and Dangerous film series.

Plot

The story involves Chan Ho-Nam (Ekin Cheng) competing for control of Causeway Bay with Szeto Ho-Nam of the Tong Sing gang(Mark Cheng). Meanwhile, the Chinese-Malaysian governor (Paul Chun) has set up Ho-Nam involving real-estate fraud.

The story starts with Chan Ho-Nam, Hung Hing's dragonhead Chiang Tin Yeung and Ben Hon talking about the shifting tide for the Triads once the passover of power back to Mainland China once 1997 reaches. Chiang Tin Yeung advice Ho-Nam that the days of yesteryear for gangsters are gone as everything has to be kept underground even more while nothing is more important than making money and it doesn't hurt to make friends with rich people. Soon after, Pou-pan saw a woman drinking a spiked drink and was acting wildly under the influence of drug and trying to control the situation, he got into an altercation together with Jiu-Pei (Banana Skin) and as things started to escalate, Szeto Ho-Nam, Tong Sing's leader fighting for the control of Causeway Bay from Chan showed up and goaded Chan. Before things could escalate even further, new OCTB inspector, Lee, came and stopped them both from escalating the matter. With Szeto backing out and leaving, Lee warned that due to Chan's fame in both the Causeway Bay area, if anything was to go wrong there, he will be the 1st to arrest Chan for questioning while giving Chan his personal number in case anything goes wrong in his territory. Soon, Chiang Tin Yeung brought Ben Hon, Key and Ho-Nam to Malaysia for a charity event where Ho-Nam was acquainted with a rich Datuk, Chan Ka-Nam and soon both became friends. Ka-Nam talked into Ho-Nam into being a partner of his newest venture in Hong Kong, a cruise ship and under the previous advice he got from Chiang, Chan Ka-Nam agrees to the partnership. In the event, Chan met eyes with Uncle Seven's "god daughter", Mei Ling and both of them flirted with each other secretly. In Hong Kong, an old-time friend of Chan, Dai-Tau (Big Head), who became a scapegoat for the murder both him and Chan did and sentenced to 9 years in jail prior to the movie, was released from prison and was selling newspaper under a bridge in Chan's territory. Chan spotted him and both went for morning Dim Sum where both talked about the time where Dai-tau decided to be the scapegoat when promised to be promoted to a higher position and the jail time will be less instead of the 9 years he got. Despite constant pleading by Ho-Nam, Jiu-Pei and Pou-Pan, Dai-Tau was adamant about re-entering the gangster lifestyle while remaining to sell his newspaper. However due to his past haunting him and Szeto's rivalry with Chan, Dai-Tau was constantly harassed by Szeto's men and even got his entire booth burnt, only for Jiu-Pei and Pou-Pan coming to the rescue too late. Having enough of the nonsense, Dai-Tau joined Hung Hin again under Ho-Nam.

A few months go by and during a drinking session between Ho-Nam, Ben-Hon, Key and Ka-Nam. Halfway into the session, Ho-Nam received a phone call and rushes out leaving Ben-Hon to clear the bill. Soon it was clear that Ho-Nam went to the police station to bail out Mei Ling who was caught using counterfeit US notes. After bailing her out, taking pity on her, he brings Mei Ling to his house to have dinner with his buddies and their grandma and they had a good time. Soon time passed and the cruise ship was launched. Everything seemed well but Szeto gatecrashed the open ceremony and Chan nearly butted heads with him again only to have Ka-Nam stopping Chan from turning violent while explaining he invited Szeto as they had an idea to host a boxing match on the ship. Dai-Tau, being one of the best fighter and the newest member in Chan's party, volunteered to fight in the upcoming boxing match. Few hours has passed and the ship's casino was running. Mei Ling, who was accompanying Uncle Seven to the opening ceremony, was caught cheating at the poker tables and Chan pulled her aside for questioning. When Chan pulled her into an empty room, she revealed that she did that in order to make love with Chan as she has fallen for him but still remembering his deceased girlfriend, Smartie, he backed out and told her to return to Uncle Seven. As Chinese New Year was coming, Chan brought his brothers and grandma to their own restaurant for a reunion dinner but below the restaurant, they met Mei Ling. Bewildered, Chan asked Mei Ling what she was doing there where she retorted back that she knew Chan will be there so she stalked him there uninvited. However, Chan relented and asked her up for dinner also under the "orders" of grandma. However, upon reaching the restaurant, Chan and the gang found out that guests were all being held up outside the restaurant. Chan asked the manager what was happening and he mentioned that the restaurant was being messed with and it turned out to be Szeto and his men. Feeling annoyed, Chan asked them to leave but after failing to, he called Inspector Lee and soon, Lee cleared the whole ground of Szeto's men. After dinner, Chan brought Mei Ling to the flower market and as they were walking, Mei Ling again hinted on how much she loved Chan. She also told Chan that she knew who Smartie was and her terrible death and the sole reason on why Chan is not in another relationship. Undeterred, she inches closer to kiss Chan after making a joke about a Marlboro signboard and on the countdown of the New Year timer, they locked lips and kissed. A day has passed and Hon-Nam was making rounds with his buddies across Causeway Bay, thanking anyone who supported him and soon, returned to the new company he had with the new business he had with Ka-Nam. Out of curiosity, Dai-Tau took a look at the agreement Ho-Nam and Ka-Nam signed and realized something was odd as the agreement mentioned nothing of the cruise ship partnership that Ho-Nam was a partner of but instead on only the property business which Ho-Nam also had a part on. Thinking it made not much difference, Ho-Nam assured Dai-Tau that nothing was wrong but the next moment, Commercial Crime officers entered the office and arrested Ho-Nam on the pretext of commercial fraud and was questioned the whole night in the police station. While still being locked away, Szeto's men created a ruckus at the bus depot where Chan was controlling and to protect the business, Jiu-Pei led some men and retaliated against Szeto's men. OCTB and police officers soon arrived and as the crowd disperses into different directions, Jiu-Pei, one of Szeto's man and his injured brother were arrested with the injured laying beside a bus with blood flowing from his head and in a comatose state after constant ramming by Jiu-Pei. When day arrived, Ho-Nam was released after questioning and Inspector Lee came to pick him up while telling him that his men had created trouble in the territory and despite him not calling the shots while being in the station, as he's the boss, he has to be questioned. As Lee led Ho-Nam back to his office, they heard gunshots from the direction of Lee's office and as they rushed over, they were told that the gangster arrested with Jiu-Pei has received news that his brother was dead by a police officer and in a fit of anger and revenge, he snatched a police officer's revolver and fired 3 rapid shots at Jiu-Pei who collapsed and died.

The next day saw the whole of Ho-Nam's gang and Jiu-Pei's relatives trying to enter the police station to pay respect to him but Lee denied them entrance and told them that if they want to offer prayer and pay their final respect, they can do it outside the station's gate and warned Ho-Nam that his "Underground Rules" does not apply on him. Having learnt that Ka-Nam had cheated him, Chan brought Pou-Pan and Dai-Tau to confront Ka-Nam only to learn that he was tricked all along and Ka-Nam had always been working with Szeto and felt betrayed when Mei Ling was revealed by Ka-Nam that she was told to seduce Chan in order to get info from him. Soon, in order to win the fight, both Dai-Tau and Ho-Nam trained hard for the fight and while Chan was resting and watching the scenery of Hong Kong alone, Szeto appeared and made a side bet with Chan that if his fighter, Ho-Yong, loses, he will leave Causeway Bay for good. During the press conference about the upcoming fight, everything seemed to be going well but then a reporter, a mole planted by Ho-Nam with the help of Tai-Fei (Anthony Wong Chau-sang), spilled the beans of Ka-Nam's misdeeds such as fraud and murder of a Malaysian official who was on his case. Worse still, Mei Ling also managed to find Ka-Nam's wife who was expelled off to Sabah and call her back to Hong Kong to spread his evil deeds. With issues mounting, Ka-Nam pleaded with Szeto to ask for manpower to protect him but Szeto quickly debuffs Ka-Nam and simply walked away. Delaying time to make his personal escape, Ka-Nam lied and tried to flee from the back but was instead blocked by Pou-Pan and was beaten up by him with a aluminium baseball bat.

With the sponsor Ka-Nam gone, the boxing event still goes on and while Dai-Tau was ready, Szeto's fighter, Ho-Yong, was late and worse still, was caught by Szeto to be late for no other reason than to date a Caucasian girl. The match starts with Dai-Tau entering the match first and Ho-Yong second. While Dai-Tau was warming up, Ho-Yong goaded at the entire of Hung Hing and suddenly assaulted the unready Dai-Tau in the back which caused both sides having a brawl in the ring. After calming down, the ring was cleared and the match started. With the main match going on, Szeto and Chan went to the back and had a fight of their own. The main match saw Dai-Tau nearly losing the 1st round to Ho-Yong but right before the second match, it was revealed that the Caucasian girl was all along a spy working for Hung Hing under Sister 13 and after having sex with the Caucasian girl 7 times the previous night, Ho-Yong went limp and exhausted which saw Dai-Tau gaining an upper hand. In the meantime, Ken, Ben-Hon and Tai-Fei were looking at the stadium from a van when Inspector Lee entered the stadium with a bunch of riot police. In the 3rd round, Dai-Tau gained the upper hand and after a series of solid punches, he uppercut Ho-Yong and beat him to a knockout. After the match, the whole ring was up in brawl again and it soon turned out that Inspector Lee came to the match already predicting a gang fight and soon ordered him men to enter the ring and make arrests. With the mess still going on, the back stage fight between Szeto and Chan exploded into the main stage with the burst of the doors and both were soon fighting on the boxing ring. When Lee arrived with his subordinates, he was confused to what was happening but instead of making arrest, he told his men to let them both continue fighting. Chan was losing the fight but after dodging Szeto's few blows, he retaliated with a series of connecting punches to Szeto's guts and finished him with a KO by doing a high kick to Szeto's face. The fight ends with Szeto lying on the ground with Chan claiming to him that "There's only one Ho-Nam in Causeway Bay and that's me, Chan Ho-Nam".

The film ends with Mei Ling celebrating the win with Chan and the crew with Ben-Hon and Key earning millions from the bets and all of Tong Sing's men being arrested.
