Yoruba edition of Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |
The Yoruba Wikipedia is the Yoruba language edition of Wikipedia. Begun in October 2002,[1] it now has 31736 articles and 17,912 registered users, making it the 92nd largest Wikipedia. Yoruba Wikipedia has been one of the top 3 or 4 African language Wikipedias in terms of number of articles since about 2008.[2]
A surge in number of new articles in 2011 brought the Yoruba Wikipedia article count to over 30,000,[1] making it for a time the largest African language Wikipedia.[2] At Wikimania 2012, Jimmy Wales recognized the main contributor with the second annual Wikipedian of the Year award."[3]
