Yetta Barsh Shachtman
Yetta Barsh Shachtman (1915–1996) was an American socialist politician, married to Max Shachtman, a Marxist theorist.
She wrote most of Albert Shanker's weekly columns for the New York Times. At her funeral, Saul Bellow, a classmate, delivered a eulogy.
Yetta did not write most -- or even any -- of Al's weekly New York Times pieces. He wrote them himself -- typing with two fingers -- except during a stretch in 1975-76 when New York City was on the verge of bankruptcy and the United Federation of Teachers was on the verge of a strike (and during the strike itself).
