Yale-New Haven Health System

Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) is a non-profit healthcare system with corporate headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut.[1] It is Connecticut’s largest healthcare system with 2,409 beds, [2] and includes hospitals, physicians and related health services throughout Connecticut and into New York and Rhode Island.[3] Major institutions affiliated with the system include Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Lawrence+Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital, Smilow Cancer Hospital, Yale New Haven Hospital, Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Northeast Medical Group.

History

Yale New Haven Health System was formed in 1996 through a partnership between Bridgeport and Yale New Haven hospitals.[4] The system expanded in 1998 with the addition of Greenwich Hospital. In 2016, an affiliation between Yale New Haven Health and Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare, which includes Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island, was approved.[5] The system is affiliated with Yale University in support of patient care, medical education and clinical research.[6] It also has clinical and business relationships with several hospitals in Connecticut and numerous outpatient locations throughout the state. The system operates more than 360 locations in Connecticut, southeastern New York and Rhode Island. As of September 30, 2016, YNHHS managed 2,563 beds and more than 22,193 employees and 7,648 medical staff.[7]

In August 2018, YNHHS was awarded the 2018 AHIMA Grace Award. The Grace Award is presented annually and "recognizes achievements in health information management that measurably impact quality and performance, highlighting organizations that leverage data analytics to make better decisions around clinical, financial, and operational challenges."[8] On top of health information management and data governance, Yale New Haven Health received special recognition for its attention to patient data management.

Yale New Haven Health operates five delivery networks: [9]

Bridgeport: Bridgeport Hospital, Southern CT Health System Properties and Bridgeport Hospital Foundation.

Greenwich: Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich Health Services, Inc., and the Perryridge Corporation.

Yale New Haven: Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven and The Grimes Center.

Lawrence + Memorial Health: Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Westerly Hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut and Joslin Diabetes Center.

Northeast Medical Group: Northeast Medical Group is a not-for-profit multispecialty medical foundation has aligned physicians and mid-level providers across Yale New Haven Health.

Community

In fiscal year 2016, YNHHS Delivery Networks provided more than $178.1 million (at cost) in community benefits, including uncompensated, under-compensated and charity care.[10]
