William Layton (actor)

William Layton (1912–1994) was an American playwright and actor.

Education and early career

  • Trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts
  • On a trip to London, along with his friend Thornton Wilder was introduced to European theater
  • Returned to the states and joined the American Theatre Wing in New York
  • Met his future mentor, Sanford Meisner, entering the Neighborhood Playhouse.

Awards and accolades

  • Best Director of the Year ( 1979 )
  • Daedalus Award 1990 ( Daily 16 )
  • Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 1989.
