WQLR ("Kalamazoo's 1660 The Fan") is an American expanded band AM radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to operate on 1660 kHz from facilities located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The station had been licensed to Fairfield Broadcasting as WQSN, and was sold to Midwest Communications in 2006. The FCC approved a callsign change on March 26, 2007 to WQLR, the former callsign of WVFM, an existing FM music station owned by Midwest Communications in Kalamazoo.
WQLR Started out as a Clear music Station. Elevator music for some. It was located on the 3rd floor of what was the ISB Building (now the Comerica Building) in downtown Kalamazoo.
Programming
WQLR is an affiliate of Fox Sports Radio, carrying "Shep, Shower, and Shave" with Matt Shepherd from 6-9 am Monday-Friday, "The Dan Patrick Show" from 9-noon Monday-Friday, "The Herd" with Colin Cowherd from noon-3pm Monday-Friday, "The Huge Show" from 3-6p, Monday-Friday. and features Fox hosts Steve Gorman, JT the Brick, Jason Smith, and Ben Maller weekdays. The station also simulcasts the Fox NFL pre-game show on Sundays from 11 am to 1 pm. In addition to the station's sports talk shows, WQLR carries Chicago Cubs radio play-by-play, via the Cubs Radio Network, live high school sports featuring Kalamazoo Central and Loy Norrix, and is the flagship station of Kalamazoo Wings hockey. WQLR also broadcasts "Bronco Review" on Tuesday nights from 6-7p, featuring Robin Hook, the voice of the Western Michigan Broncos.
Bronco Radio Network
In the fall of 2010, WQLR signed a five-year contract to become the flagship station of Western Michigan University women's basketball. The station continues to be the home of WMU women's basketball.
