Vikram Solar Limited is an Indian company based in Kolkata and the second-largest solar energy company in India by revenue.[4] It also carries out engineering, procurement and construction services and operations & maintenance of solar power plants. It is a subsidiary of Vikram Group, which also has subsidiaries in the tea processing, textiles and engineering industries.[5][6][7][8]

History

Vikram Solar was founded in 2006 by Gyanesh Chaudhary[5] as a manufacturer of solar modules, lighting systems and power packs. It has since moved into Engineering, procurement, and construction management, and solar power plant operations & maintenance.[9][10] In 2015 the company completed the first floating solar power plant in India.[11]

On October 2015 the company concluded an agreement with British Solar Renewables (BSR) to supply modules with a total output of 30 MW.[12]

On February 2016 the company partnered with Powertech Africa, an African distributor of energy technology, thereby entering 14 new markets in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Botswana, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Vikram Solar already operates offices in Kenya, Uganda and South Africa.[13]

On June 2017 with a manufacturing capacity of 1 GW, the company has become one of the largest solar modules manufacturers in India.[14]

In March 2018 the company partnered with French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) to enhance research and developments on high efficiency crystalline silicon cells, modules, systems and a host of high efficiency generation and storage technologies for French and Indian markets.[15]

Recognition

In January 2016, Vikram Solar was awarded the Fastest Growing Company Award for companies with a turnover between INR 300 crore & INR 1000 crore at the Economic Times Bengal Corporate Awards.[16] The company has been ranked number 1 among domestic manufacturers for module sales to rooftop solar projects in India.[17]
