Vellore Madhavan Muralidharan, better known as Mike Muralidharan, (born 29 December 1959) is an Indian educationist and IT industry veteran. Currently, he is the Chairman of Ethiraj College for Women and Global COO of Bahwan CyberTek Group.

He is also a Trustee at ALERT NGO, Panel Member on the Education Panel, TNSC at FICCI and Charter Member on the Concordia India Advisory Board of Concordia College (New York).

Personal life and education

Muralidharan was born on 29 December 1959 to V. J. Madhavan and Chandrika Madhavan in Chennai, India. His family hails from the city of Vellore.

Muralidharan did his schooling at St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School. He did his pre-university education at Loyola College, Chennai. He completed his Bachelor's with honors degree in electronics & communication engineering in 1983 from the College of Engineering, Guindy.

He is married to Kalpana Muralidharan and they have two children, Varshini and Saravan Krishna.

Career

Muralidharan started his career with two of India’s biggest IT giants – Wipro, where he worked for 7 years between 1983 and 1990 and HCL, 10 years, between 1990 and 2000. In his role as General Manager at HCL in 2000, he was heading the operations at Bangalore, the IT capital of India.

He moved to Precision Group in 2001 to build and lead the technology services company Precision Techserve, his entrepreneurship venture. As the Director and President, he grew Precision Techserve to a multi-million US$ 650+ people organization. In 2006, Precision Techserve set up a Global Competency Centre in Chennai to provide Remote Infrastructure Management services for the global market. After receiving a strategic investment in 2007 and completing his obligations, he exited the company effective 1 January 2010.

At present, since 2010, in his role as the Global COO of Bahwan CyberTek Group, a US$ 350M global software products and solutions group, he spearheads the global operations and steers the organization’s business.

As the Chairman of Ethiraj College Trust, since September 2013, he heads the renowned Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai and the Ethiraj Matriculation School, Vellore. Both campuses together house close to 10,000 students. Muralidharan, great grand nephew of the founder chairman, V. L. Ethiraj, is the youngest-ever and the first member from the founder's family to head the Ethiraj College Trust.

He is also a Trustee at ALERT NGO, Panel Member on the Education Panel, TNSC at FICCI and Charter Member on the Concordia India Advisory Board of Concordia College (New York).

Awards and honors

In 2015, Muralidharan received the Raindropss "Edupreneur Award" from the hands of Dr. Konijeti Rosaiah, His Excellency Governor of Tamil Nadu, for his initiatives, commitments, excellence and significant contributions in the field of education.

In 2016, he was interviewed by News7Tamil for the prestigious "Paesum Thalaimai" show and was honored with the title "Penn Kalviyin Perumagan (Don of Women's Education)".

In 2016, he was conferred with the "Eminent Educationist Award" at the Indo-American Education Summit 2016 and it was presented by Dr. S. Narayan IAS (Retd.), Former Union Finance Secretary and Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of India and Mr. Rajendra Ratnoo IAS, Director of Technical Education, Govt of Tamil Nadu.

In 2017, he was awarded with the "Vocational Excellence Award" by Rotary Club of Chennai Velachery Rotary International Dist. 3230 in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the cause of Women Literacy.

In 2018, he was conferred with the "Distinguished Alumnus Award" by the Alumni Association College of Engineering, Guindy in recognition of his outstanding service to India and elsewhere in the world in the field of Education and Information Technology.
