The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) is an accredited private higher education institution in Prague, Czech Republic. It was established in 1998 in cooperation with the State University of New York at New Paltz and Empire State College, both part of the State University of New York (SUNY). UNYP was recognition by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in 2001 on the basis of accreditation of its study programs in Business Administration and International European Relations. UNYP is a member of the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education.

Originally located in the historic old town of Prague, on the corner of Mikovcova and Legerova streets, in 2014 UNYP moved to a new campus on Londýnská 41 in Vinohrady (Prague 2).

Academics

UNYP offers accredited Bachelor's degrees,[1] Master's programs,[2] MBA programs,[3] and PhD programs in English,[4] in partnership with universities in the United States and across Europe. Almost 60% of faculty members hold doctoral degrees, including the chair of one of the university's five departments. These doctorates are most frequently from Charles University or the Prague University of Economics.

Undergraduate programs

The university awards four-year American bachelor's degrees in the fields of Business Administration, International Economic Relations, Communication and Mass Media, Psychology, English Language and Literature, and IT Management.[1] These courses are offered in cooperation with Empire State College, and recognized and accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education as well as by the US Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The university also awards three-year European bachelor's degrees in the fields of Business Administration, Marketing, and Finance.[1] European bachelor's degrees are recognized and accredited by the Czech Ministry of Education as well as by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

Graduate programs

Master's Degrees offered by UNYP include:[2]

  • an MA in Strategic Communication, in cooperation with La Salle University, Philadelphia, United States
  • an LL.M. in International and Commercial Law, in cooperation with the University of Bolton, United Kingdom
  • an MA in Psychology
  • an M.Sc. in International Management, also in cooperation with the University of Bolton

UNYP also offers MBA programs focused on Marketing, Finance, Management, Entrepreneurship, or Project Management, as well as a Flexible Online MBA.[3] The UNYP MBA is an IACBE-accredited program.

Doctorates

PhDs are awarded by UNYP in cooperation with the University of Bolton in the United Kingdom.[4]

Accreditation

  • UNYP is recognized by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports as a private higher education institution. Currently, five UNYP bachelor's degree programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education and lead to the award of a bakalář (bachelor's) degree: Business Administration, Psychology, Communication & Mass Media, European Business Administration, and International Economic Relations.
  • UNYP's European Bachelor's in Business Administration (BBA) and Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degrees are accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE)
  • British Accreditation Council (BAC)
  • Since 2001, UNYP has been accredited and recognized by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education as an institution providing higher education.
  • UNYP has been accredited and recognized by the Czech Association of MBA Schools (CAMBAS), since 2003.[5]
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) examinations are the most frequently recognized qualifications in Europe. ACCA recognizes several of UNYP's undergraduate courses as providing exemptions from some ACCA exams.
  • Several UNYP higher education programs are approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for United States veterans and their eligible dependents to use their veterans benefits, specifically the four year bachelor's degree, the Master's in Professional and Business Communication, the Master's in Clinical/Counseling Psychology, PhD and MBA programs.

UNYP joined the American Chamber of Commerce in the Czech Republic in 1999 and the Czech Association of MBA Schools (CAMBAS) in 2003. UNYP is also a member of Central and East European Management Development Association (CEEMAN), an association of business education providers in Central and Eastern Europe.
