Troy Parks and Recreation

Troy Parks and Recreation is a municipal department in Troy, Alabama, a city of 18,500.

The Troy Recreation Department first opened in 1952.

The original office was located at Murphree Park Pavilion, moving to the Elm Street School building in 1985, moving to the old Troy Public Library building in 1994, and moving into the Recreation Center in 2006.

Recreation Directors have been Bill Sanford, Scotty Sauers, Cathy Brunson, James "Bo" Gaylard, (1982–1995); and Dan Smith, (1995–present).

TPRD is funded as a municipal department by the City of Troy, and provides a wide range of activities for youth, adults and seniors.

A new 60,000-square-foot (5,600 m2) recreation center opened in 2006, providing a fitness center, an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor pool, a splashpad, an overhead 1/9 mile walking track, two racquetball courts, two multi purpose rooms, and more.

A 1.1 mile paved walking trail and a Miracle Field opened in 2011, also at the Troy Sportsplex.
