Trailblazers (Community Channel TV series)

Trailblazers is a television series presented by Kara Miller and first aired in October 2007 on the Community Channel (UK). Trailblazers is a celebration, for Black History Month, of people of colour who have achieved extraordinary things. The four interviewees are performing at the highest level in their chosen fields.

Episodes

Trailblazers Season One consists of four 15 minute episodes.

  1. George Harris - George Harris (actor) - originally from the Caribbean island of Grenada - his film credits include The Interpreter, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Black Hawk Down, Layer Cake and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
  2. Precious Williams - Precious Williams (writer) is the daughter of a Nigerian princess and was "privately fostered", from the age of three months, by a white family in West Sussex. Her first book, a memoir called Precious in the United Kingdom and Color Blind in the United States (Bloomsbury, 2010), lifts the lid on the private fostering phenomenon in the UK and describes her abusive childhood and her subsequent journey to finding her own identity. Born in the UK, Precious has also lived in New York City and Berlin, where she has worked as a journalist, writing teacher and author.
  3. Alrick Riley - Alrick Riley (director) – he was the first Black British director to win a Bafta – Alrick has directed Cops, Spooks, Hustle, Hotel Babylon, Judge John Deed, Inspector Lynley etc. and is now one of Britain's most sought-after television directors.
  4. Paul Crooks - Paul Crooks (writer and expert in African-Caribbean genealogy) - he spent 20 years of his on what seemed like an impossible quest to find his ancestors. Paul wrote a critically acclaimed work of "faction" (fact and fiction) called Ancestors, which was inspired by his search for his African roots.
