Tough Nut (Russian: Крепкий орешек, translit. Krepkiy oreshek) is a 1967 Soviet comedy war film directed by Theodor Vulfovich.[1][2]

The film's title is a pun on the word nut in Russian (Russian: Орешек, translit. Oreshek) — as the lead character's last name is Oreshkina.

Plot

After an injury, Lieutenant Ivan Groznykh (Vitaly Solomin) is appointed commander of the women's air defense unit. Among his subordinates is a brisk and sharp-tongued sergeant Oreshkina (Nadezhda Rumyantseva), who causes a lot of trouble to her commander. As result of an incident, while on a barrage balloon they fall into the territory occupied by the Germans. From the balloon they descend into a haystack, and the balloon is blown away by the wind. Waking up on a haystack, they find around German soldiers who open other haystacks, out of which appear anti-aircraft guns. Under their own stack they discover ammunition storage. Oreshkina accidentally sets fire to a stack and thereby destroys ammunition and artbattery, while they escape from there along with the Germans.

After that they change into clothes of local residents. To resemble the grandmother in whose clothes Groznykh is dressed in, he needs a shave, for which he derails the German train. Oreshkina disguises herself as a boy. After that, they steal a German amphibian car and, crossing it on the river, manage to get away. Many adventures wait for them in the enemy's rear.
