Tongue tied (disambiguation)

Being tongue tied, medically defined as having ankyloglossia, is a condition in which the lingual frenulum (a membrane that connects the tongue to the floor of the mouth) is unusually short, causing restricted movement of the tongue.

In babies, this can be easily corrected by a simple frenectomy procedure often performed by an ENT, lactation consultant, dentist, or midwife. Early detection and correction can also prevent breastfeeding problems such as loss of milk supply, sore nipples from biting, and weight loss or slow growth of the baby.
