The Scouts/Guides Organisation of India (SGO) is a non-political, non-sectarian Scouting association and a lifetime member of the World Federation of Independent Scouts. It depends largely on public support. In 2018, the Telegraph of Calcutta reported an arrest on fraud charges related to the SGO.[1]

The Scouts/Guides Organisation is registered under the Society Registration Act 21, 1860 Vide-Registration no. 62/06-07. The organization has a pan-Indian presence and coordinates various activities with the support of local authority for the strategic development of youths in more than 15 states.

The organization was registered on 18/01 2008 under 12A/80G of Income Tax Act 1961 and its registration number is 112/2007-2008. The organization also obtained membership from the World Federation of Independent Scouts, on 31 August 2008. As a result, any member of the SGO is able to participate in the international jamborees, as well as other Scout camps. They also represent India at a world level. The organisation has a Foreign Contribution Regulation Act certificate under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The organization has been conducting a Scouting/Guiding programme to develop skills, as well as providing physical fitness and proper training of disaster management to students. The organization organizes training programmes, seminar and other activities under the implementation of instructions issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Government of India.

Scoutmasters and Guide Captains are paid.[2]
